WHO WE ARE

JOHN ACTON

Johm Acton John Acton brings a wealth of business experience and engineering knowledge to Brandis, the result of a long and successful career in infrastructure and environmental development and consulting companies.

Until earlier this year, he was Chief Executive and Director of Engineering for Compact Power Limited, leading this UK quoted company known for its development and commercialisation of an advanced thermal process for Energy from Waste using pyrolysis and gasification, having been with the company since its foundation in 1993. He was responsible for the design, construction and operation of the Company’s first fully commercial plant at Avonmouth, Bristol.

Prior to joining Compact Power, he served as Business Development Director of South West Water, responsible for new business start-ups and non-core business development. During that period he also acted as Managing Director of a joint venture with the Weir Group developing new technologies for the Waste Water industry.

John has also held a number of senior executive and consulting appointments in the Paper industry (with E S & A Robinson), the Port and Harbour Industry (with the Port of Bristol Authority), Aluminium Smelting (with Anglesey Aluminium), the Chemical Industry (with CIBA Geigy), and Consulting Engineering (with Ewbank Preece and Posford, Pavry & Partners).

With Ewbank Preece, he was Managing Director of the Group Company responsible for the firm’s activities in cogeneration, electrical and mechanical engineering associated with power generation, distribution and utilisation, industrial power plants, district heating programs and waste heat recovery.

With Posford Pavry, he was the Partner responsible for the Firm's Department of electrical, mechanical and building services engineering. Major projects involved generation, desalination, high voltage distribution, air conditioning, steam air and water services, process and industrial plants.

During his career he has gained extensive experience in the UK and internationally in projects involving the generation and distribution of power and related services.

John is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (FIET). He graduated in Electrical Engineering from the University of London.
